The big release of the previous Friday, Nikhil Advani's Mithun Chakraborty, Akshay Kumar, Deepika Padukone, Gordon Liu and Ranvir Shorey starrer, CHANDNI CHOWK TO CHINA, failed to embark on the flying start that it was expected to. Released at around 103 cinemas of Bombay-Thane by Warner Bros. Pictures (I) Pvt. Ltd., CC2C had a fair opening to show. The film has taken an excellent opening in some circuits like Delhi-U.P., East Pun jab and C.I. but its start in some of the other circuits has been from average to fair. Trade predicts that considering its heavy cost, CHANDNI CHOWK TO CHINA will entail losses to its makers (who are also its worldwide distributors) because it has absolutely no strength to sustain. In the Overseas, the film has performed decently in the US grossing $685,798 (4-days), but is quite ordinary in the UK with a weekend gross of just $404,404.
The performance of the first releases of 2009, namely KAASH... MERE HOTE, BAD LUCK GOVIND and the English film THE PRESIDENT IS COMING is nothing to write home about. While the first two films, KAASH... MERE HOTE, and BAD LUCK GOVIND, barely managed to get to 10-15 lakhs a piece from India, THE PRESIDENT IS COMING went on to collect 25 lakhs from Bombay, 1.10 lakhs from Pune, 6.40 lakhs from Delhi city, 1.65 lakhs from Noida and 2 lakhs from Gurgaon. Needless to add that all the three January 9 releases have failed badly, with THE PRESIDENT IS COMING faring somewhat better, netting around 60 lakhs from India..
Meanwhile the Murugadoss directed Aamir Khan starrer GHAJINI continues its dream run. Just for records, in the US RNBDJ has grossed $2,078,956 (till January 15) while UK has a gross of $2,189,817 to show.

Truth Behind Shahid Kapoor - Sania Mirza Break Up!
We had heard of this incident, when Sania had come on the sets of Shahid’s film with Vishal Bharadwaj and was filming the actor in every shot he gave to the camera. And then out of the blue when we were expecting a happy announcement we heard a rumour, which passed the final decree that, the Shaahid-Sania relationship had been terminated.
It was a tough piece of news to digest and one could not help but feel sorry for Shahid who had used the Sania relationship as an adhesive to glue his broken heart after his split with Kareena if we can gloss over the Vidya Balan incident as a fling. All in all Shaahid was basking in his new found love and his recent success of ‘Jab We Met’.
The co-incidence was that Shaahid while getting over Kareena had made a trip to Bangalore to be with friends who introduced him to Sania who is a staunch Hindi film buff. For Shahid who went out with her a couple of times after that, she was a perfect fill in the romantic void, which Kareena had left him with.
A person who had been with the star said that from the point of the beginning of this relationship Shahid was very aware of the fact that he had to better his earlier conquest. After all it might sound shallow but it was Bebo who had chosen to move on with Saif. So it was left to Shaahid to procure a trophy girlfriend to regain his stature.
Fact remains that Sania was every inch a trophy girlfriend. A tennis sensation, the girl was an inspiration to several sports kids and adults as someone who had broken ground in a sport that was not cricket. Besides her glamour quotient was high enough whether it was the nose ring or the glasses that were fashion statements.
Sania was wowing the generation next and while all had a keen eye to know who her love interest would be, they certainly did not imagine that the chocolate boy next door Shahid would fit a perfect size into those shoes. It is common knowledge that Shahid who had earlier thrown caution to the winds in his previous relationship wanted to do the same this time but the tennis sensation was totally against it and it was her propitiatory attitude that caused him to maintain his “I don’t want to speak about my personal life,” stance.
On his part the actor decided to give this relationship his best shot. The fact that he was extra choosy about his work gave him enough free time to pursue the tennis star. But she was quite clear that she did not want him to be seen at matches, as that would really set tongues wagging.“Maybe it was the way his last relationship had ended or simply the trauma of losing out on his achievement in his personal life that made Shahid infringe on Sania’s privacy a bit too much,” revealed his close associate.
But Shahid kept barraging the lady with innumerable phone calls and queries of her whereabouts. And he would be angered if she was out of bounds. Thus began the first rumblings and squabble in what so far seemed to be a perfect relationship.
“On his part Shaahid was justified; he had clearly indicated to all that he was off the dating block and was in a serious relationship once again,” averred our informer. Even Vidya Balan was bid a categorical good bye. Shahid’s point being that he was going out of his way to spell out the status but somehow Sania was not giving the same no holds barred response. Which led him to question whether she was feeling the same emotion that he did.
Sania had always assured him of the same feelings but she perhaps could not put herself out there because it would mean saying goodbye to her career, which she had built with great perseverance. Shahid of course was to wait at least a year before he settled down. Then out of the blue when her Olympics dream ended, Ms. Mirza decided to give her relationship all it took. And she came down to Mumbai to spend time with her beau. Shahid was ecstatic and made huge plans with Sania. Nothing was to disturb the lovers till Sania’s next tennis match was right round the corner.
Well Shahid is not a player. He is a one-woman man. So he was going ahead and planning to shift houses and even looking at pads closer to where Sania could train. But in the next match Sania did better and once again her dream seemed within her grasp. Love could wait, as it was not on top of her list of priorities.
“Yet again Shahid was informed about the split on the telephone,” informs the source. Needless to say, the guy did not deserve this fate despite his best intentions. Well all said and done, he was not going to give up this relationship without a fight.
He organised for his next shoot to be in Hyderabad for a long time. It was coincidently Sania’s home. Producer Vishal Bharadwaj complied and organised the shoot in Hyderabad. It is believed that Sania refused to relent to Shahid’s pleadings and her parents stepped in to finally tell the actor to lay off. Shahid returned to shoot in Chandigarh post this with a very heavy heart.
Perhaps some things are just not meant to be. Maybe the relationship of his past was casting its shadow and making him more clinging but it is bad experience that determines a person’s actions and how can you call it love if your partner cannot understand your basic need to want to be a part of her life whether it is mundane or out of this world.
Togetherness is perhaps a feeling that facilitates that your life does not go unnoticed but what happens when you are a celebrity who is noticed all the time. Then perhaps the concept of space comes in. Space that can be defined as the room you give your partner or simply the distance between the individuals.

Tusshar's roof top dream comes true
They say that when you really want something bad you sometimes get it, but when you get it in the form of a surprise New Year gift then, it's worth much more. Such is the case for actor Tusshar Kapoor, who received the best New Year's gift from his parents - Jeetendra and Shobha Kapoor.
Ever since Tusshar stepped in the show biz he has dreamt of having his own house in Mumbai. This year, his parents surprised him by gifting him a penthouse at Juhu in Mumbai. The duo bought the house a few years ago and recently began furnishing it for their son.
Jeetu and Shobha had the house custom designed prior to gifting it to son Tusshar. They handed over the keys to their son on the 31st; Tusshar was so thrilled with his gift that he immediately arranged a small party for close friends at his new bachelor pad.
Tusshar cannot get enough of his new crib however the actor insists that he shall continue to stay with his parents and only use the house for get together with friends and family, and for time-offs.
Looks like some one was extremely nice last year for Santa to bring him such an awesome gift.

After the super success of Jannat, Bhatt Camp will once again outbreak this winter, when they release their most awaited and biggest project till date but this time Vishesh Films have joined hands with Sony BMG as producers to make this project the most memorable one, their upcoming film Raaz -The Mystery Continues.
The film is being directed by Mohit Suri starring Bhatt Camps’ Blue eyed boy Emraan Hashmi alongside Kangna Ranaut and the new lad Adhyayan Suman. The film is being termed as a supernatural thriller, and is not at all a sequel to Raaz. Instead it is being talked of being ‘Omen’ of the new generation.

The film will tend to challenge one’s beliefs about the supernatural phenomenon. The film has element of romanticized thriller and is being slated as the biggest project ever by the Bhatts in hands with Sony BMG.

Kangna Ranaut hanging on a wall with a haunting background score in play is good enough to set the mood in for this horror flick which is next in the series of Raaz.
While there are a couple of shots featuring Adhyayan that give a romantic angle to the tale, the promo remains true to the film's subject of mystery and intrigue as Emraan Hashmi's character finds himself engaged in an all around suspicious environment. What takes the cake though is a shot where Kangna suddenly jumps and sits up on her bed while giving out a loud cry. Scary, really scary!
What really stands out in the film is that never once do the frames turn gory or ugly. Story Line:
A brooding artist Prithvi (EmraanHashmi), experiences mysterious & distressing visions about Nandita (Kangna Ranaut), a woman he has never met, which he paints on canvas. Intrigued by these visions, Prithvi tracks her down and warns her that these are not merely paintings of her, but accidents waiting to happen!
At first, Nandita refuses to believe him and dismisses him as an eccentric stalker. However, the striking resemblance between Prithvi’s paintings and the near-death incidents in her life is hard to ignore. Haunted by a series of deathly and paranormal experiences, her reason crumbles in the face of fear.
Now, one of Prithvi’s paintings has revealed her as dead! The only way she can change her fate, is to unravel this mystery with his help, at the risk of alienating herself from her boyfriend, Yash (Adhyayan Suman), a rational and logical man who refuses to believe in Prithvi’s premonitions.

Story Line:
A brooding artist Prithvi (EmraanHashmi), experiences mysterious & distressing visions about Nandita (Kangna Ranaut), a woman he has never met, which he paints on canvas. Intrigued by these visions, Prithvi tracks her down and warns her that these are not merely paintings of her, but accidents waiting to happen!
At first, Nandita refuses to believe him and dismisses him as an eccentric stalker. However, the striking resemblance between Prithvi’s paintings and the near-death incidents in her life is hard to ignore. Haunted by a series of deathly and paranormal experiences, her reason crumbles in the face of fear.

Joining the duo is Yashraj's Uday Chopra, who plays the third angle in the film. ‘Pyaar Impossible’ revolves around a superstar played by Priyanka Chopra, who continues to enjoy her stardom with her on-screen boyfriend played by Dino Morea. The twist in the tale comes when Priyanka falls in love with Uday, who is a bookshop owner.

Based on insiders, speculated marriage rumors ticked off the sexy lady and Salman openly declaring his love for the actress apparently only added to the fire. The tension mounted when Salman had a major showdown with actor Shahrukh Khan at Katrina's birthday bash last year which was organized by Salman at the Olive Bar and Grill restaurant at Bandra in Mumbai. The Sallu-Kat drama further lead to Kat’s no show at Salman's birthday bash at Panvel. Based on sources close to the actor, Salman did not seem much bothered by his lady love's absence at his bash.

Kangana Ranaut shocked Madhur
It is no mean task to impress director Madhur Bhandarkar but Kangana Ranaut not only impressed him but also managed to shock him. Madhur was busy editing his forthcoming venture Fashion and asked his assistant editor to fill in for him for one hour while Kangana was going to dub. Usually an artiste takes three to four days to complete the dubbing of a film, as it is a very tedious and an emotionally draining experience. However, Kangana was so quick with her work that by the time Madhur had reached the dubbing studio, Kangana had not only finished a substantial part of the dubbing but did it without any retakes. Madhur realised that the dubbing had drained her emotionally so he asked her to take a break. But Kangana refused and finished the entire dubbing at one go.
Madhur was so overwhelmed. “Since her role is very emotional, I thought she would have taken a long time to dub. However, Kangana went through the script and dubbed at a stretch. She stunned me,” he says. As per the buzz, Kangana’s character is likely to be inspired by well-known model, Geetanjali Nagpal, who was found homeless on the street in Delhi. The film stars Priyanka Chopra, model Mughda Godse and Arjan Bajwa in pivotal roles.

Minissha Lamba eight loss story
Actress Minissha Lamba worked really hard to shape up to carry off a bikini with panache in Sanjay Gadhvi’s Kidnap, but she credits co-star Imran Khan for helping her maintain her weight.
“Imran helped me in my weight loss regime,” Minissha said. “During the shootings, I was on a high-protein diet. While I was surviving mostly on protein bars, Imran used to get his dabba from home with delicious keema (minced meat). The aroma of the keema always tempted me, so Imran stopped eating in front of me. He used to sit in a corner, far away from me. Since I couldn’t smell it, I didn’t get tempted,” she quipped.
After having worked extremely hard for her sexy image, Minissha now plans to stick to her healthy diet forever. “It was eight long months of denying myself cakes and pastries. But I plan to continue to stick to the same diet. And now that I’m in shape, I don’t feel like eating stuff that’s wrong for me. My body has gotten used to being in a particular way. It also rejects something that is not right for it,” Minissha said.

In fact, it is challenging to work with stars who are so experienced. I use the nuances when I get a chance to. I had a great time shooting with him. Bollywood runs on herd mentality, acknowledging only the successful films of actors and not their talent,” said actress and former beauty queen Diya Mirza. Missing from the big screen since her cameo in the box office dud Krazzy 4, Diya hopes that her off-beat film Bits and Pieces, opposite Rahul Bose is released soon. She attributes her absence to the failure of her films and the industry’s “biased” attitude towards her.
“It was important for me to back off from films. I started my career on a good note with big banners, good producers and good actors, but the films didn’t do too well. We live in an industry that runs on herd mentality. It functions only on the number of successful films you have, not your talent,” Diya said.
In seven years, Diya has failed to deliver a memorable performance in the lead. She was, however, seen in cameos in hits like Parineeta, Lage Raho Munnabhai, Honeymoon Travels Pvt. Ltd and Shootout at Lokhandwala. Not many know that the actress also worked in an offbeat project — National Award-winning director Manmohan Mahapatra’s Bits and Pieces opposite Rahul Bose. But the film is still awaiting release. “I am really sad people didn’t get to see the film despite its diverse story and strong characters. I hope it is released,” she said.
Diya currently has five projects in her kitty — Acid Factory, Johnny Mastana, Alibaug, Kaun Bola and Kisaan. The actress is more excited about Kaun Bola, which is Arshad Warsi’s first home production. “I play a girl called Gehna in the film. It is perhaps the meatiest role I have ever played. It is a character I instantly fell in love with. She is perhaps the most real character I’ve done in commercial movies. There is a lot of me in the film,” she said. The film is written by Arshad and also stars Boman Irani. “It is a funny, light-hearted as well as an emotional film. It is not a senseless comedy like we have these days.”

Katrina Kaif busy with Subhash Ghai’s Yuvvraaj
Katrina Kaif was shooting for Subhash Ghai’s Yuvvraaj at the world famous Swavroski showroom in Austria recently. Known for its landmark jewellery and showpieces, unit members began teasing Katrina saying that the rare crystal pieces would catch her attention more than the camera. But surprisingly, Katrina was only focused on her work. Her attention was completely on the scene that was being shot. “Not even once did Katrina’s attention drift towards the showpieces. She was completely immersed in her work. She was ‘crystal’ clear about her career. Anybody in her place would have easily given into the temptation of walking around the beautifully decorated store and shopped like a maniac. But not Katrina,” a unit member said.
The unit members decided to reward Katrina’s dedication towards her work. “We bought her a crystal gift and presented it to her after the shoot was over. She was touched by our gesture,” a unit member revealed. The unit member added, “Swarvroski usually does not allow any shooting in their store. But they made an exception for Subhash’s film. Friends of the actress say that when Preity was shooting for her film Main Aur Mrs Khanna recently at Jumeirah Park in Dubai, the entire place was jam-packed with her fans. Incidentally, Jumeirah Park is said to be one of the most expensive recreational spots in Dubai. “The entire park resonated with Preity’s name, especially after she won accolades and awards for her performance in Deepa Mehta’s Heaven On Earth, and Heroes doing well at the box office. People went crazy and finally the director had to call on extra security for the actress,” the friend adds.

Abhishek Bachchan says no fun on guys
Abhishek Bachchan, who pretends to be gay in Dostana, says the film does not make fun of any community. “Actors are required to do many things, not all close to their personality or orientation. I wouldn’t call Dostana unusual. I’d call it unique. It’s a very funny film,” says Abhishek. Set in Miami, Florida, Dostana is about two friends — Abhishek and John Abraham, who pretend to be gay to get an accommodation. “I don’t think there’s anything objectionable on homosexuality in Dostana. We aren’t trying to make fun of anybody. We aren’t making a comment on any community. It’s not about homosexuality. It’s not a Brokeback Mountain,” he says.
Would you do a Brokeback Mountain? “Yes, why not? It would depend entirely on the script.” Abhishek says he feels a bit left out of all the promotional excitement for Dostana. “I wouldn’t say left out. But, yes, I do feel a bit disconnected because I’m shooting for Mani Ratnam’s film in the jungles of Kerala, two hours’ drive from Kochi where there’s no network. It’s very tough to connect with the world,” he says. Being as cut off as he is, Abhishek is trying to see the good side of things. “It’s a blessing because there are no distractions and one can get completely into the world of the film. Once we wrap up, all of us head for the gym and then sit on the scenes for the next day. On the deficit side, I don’t get to connect with my loved ones. God forbid, if there’s another medical emergency,” Abhi says.

Would you do a Brokeback Mountain? “Yes, why not? But, yes, I do feel a bit disconnected because I’m shooting for Mani Ratnam’s film in the jungles of Kerala, two hours’ drive from Kochi where there’s no network. It’s very tough to connect with the world,” he says. Being as cut off as he is, Abhishek is trying to see the good side of things. “It’s a blessing because there are no distractions and one can get completely into the world of the film. Once we wrap up, all of us head for the gym and then sit on the scenes for the next day. On the deficit side, I don’t get to connect with my loved ones. God forbid, if there’s another medical emergency,” Abhi says.

Abhishek Bachchan says no fun on guys
Abhishek Bachchan, who pretends to be gay in Dostana, says the film does not make fun of any community. “Actors are required to do many things, not all close to their personality or orientation. I wouldn’t call Dostana unusual. I’d call it unique. It’s a very funny film,” says Abhishek. Set in Miami, Florida, Dostana is about two friends — Abhishek and John Abraham, who pretend to be gay to get an accommodation. “I don’t think there’s anything objectionable on homosexuality in Dostana. We aren’t trying to make fun of anybody. We aren’t making a comment on any community. It’s not about homosexuality. It’s not a Brokeback Mountain,” he says.

Nandita Das without profession
Acclaimed actress Nandita Das, who debuted as a director with Firaaq, says she doesn’t have a definite profession as she is equally passionate about social activism as well. “I still don’t have a definite profession, and don’t repent it. I enjoy acting, direction and my human rights works simultaneously,” Nandita said. Firaaq is being showcased for the first time in India at the fest. “Some of my close associates are quite upset that I chose the Kolkata Film Festival to premiere Firaaq in India instead of the Goa Film Festival. But I deliberately wanted this because I am sure that this is the only place where I will get prompt and honest feedback,” said Nandita
Sushmita Sen looking for romance
Sushmita Sen, who will celebrate her 33rd birthday in Goa Wednesday, says she isn’t looking for romance. Despite having a string of affairs behind her, she also says she doesn’t dump men.
“Let’s just say I’m single and ready to mingle. Does that sound too trite? I’m beyond that stage where I have to party and be with 500 people to feel special. Every moment is special and I need no endorsement for it from the outside. Just being with the people who really matter to me is celebration enough,” said Sushmita.
But why does she get tired of all her relationships? “You mean, do I dump the men? That’s not true. Initially, everything is hunky-dory in a relationship. Then there has to be some dori (thread) to hold the hunky guy in our relationship. If not, then move on.”
Talking about marriage, she said, “Marriage hasn’t happened. It will happen when it happens. What’s the guarantee that after getting into marriage and 20 years of togetherness, I won’t discover it was the wrong move for me?”
Right now, Sushmita is in Goa with her birthday entourage, which consisted of 17 very close family members and friends, including, of course, daughter Renee who occupies centre stage in Sushmita’s life at the moment.
One of the highest points of Sushmita’s life this year and a good way to bring in her birthday was the Fun Fearless Female award, which she got alongside Shah Rukh Khan in Cosmopolitan magazine’s first awards in India.
“I like being perceived as fun and fearless because that’s the way I am. It was a kind of lifetime achievement before my birthday. A little premature, don’t you think? “But seriously, what made the award so special was that my daughter Renee was there to see her mother get this award. This was the first time she ever attended an awards function where her mother got an award. It felt wonderful to see Renee looking so proud of me.”
Sushmita saw Madhur Bhandarkar’s Fashion and fell for it. “I’d say some of it is definitely authentic. I’ve been a part of that world. And I know it’s not easy to maintain your equilibrium. What really blew my mind were the performances of Priyanka Chopra, Kangana Ranaut and the new girl (Mugdha Godse). This is one film I’d have liked to be part of.”
Talk veers to Dev Anand, who turned 84 recently. “I’m inspired by his zest for life. And more than that his dignity. He deserves all the adulation. Extremely charming. I don’t know whether I’ll live that long. But if I do I want to be as charming as Dev saab. But it’s impossible for me to go on that long. I’m on fast-burn all the time. As long as I live my life to the hilt I’m fine.
